Censoring of Christian's Face on Facebook

Hey everyone!!! Thanks for jumping on to read my blog today! If you enjoy my content, I invite you to check out my Patreon, where I post extra, early, and exclusive content just for my Patreon followers! You can find me at https://www.patreon.com/LaceyBuchanan.   I wanted to talk about something that happened last week on my personal social media account, and which has been happening on Christian's facebook page for a while now, because it happened again last week on one of my many birthday posts for Christian. The week of my boys' birthdays, I post tons and tons of photos and make tons of posts about them, because I want to record memories for them to have. My dad took a lot (by standards of the 90s, but not by today's standards) of photos of me and my brother when we were little. We have several photo albums full of photos of our childhood and I love that we do. So, I like to take lots of photos of my boys and post funny things they have said, or just share things that...

Waiting to Find Out If I Have Cancer

This is going to be a pretty personal post because it discusses some health issues I'm having. I want to document this part of our journey along with all the other ups and downs, though. Right around Thanksgiving last year, I noticed something wrong with my breast. I didn't panic, but I did immediately go to the doctor. I'm only 33, so I figured my chances of this being anything serious are not likely, right? However, one of my best friends was recently diagnoses with breast cancer and is undergoing treatments currently. She's only in her 40's and has a little girl Christian's age. So, watching her go through what she has got me thinking that I probably need to start being more aware and paying closer attention to my own body. I went to a walk-in clinic the next day because my doctor wasn't available until February. The walk-in clinic is thankfully located inside a clinic that has diagnostic images services and a host of specialist doctors. So, I was immed...

Mom Guilt

So many of you know me because of Christian. This blog is about Christian. Christian has a Facebook following of over 300,000. Christian is recognized in public almost every single time we go out. Everyone who knows me via social media probably knows me only because of Christian. It's a wonderful thing to be able to share our journey with so many friends who support us and carry us along the way, who celebrate when we celebrate and mourn when we mourn. It's so encouraging to know that thousands of people are on their knees in prayer when Christian is under anesthesia in the operating room. I am the happiest person ever to be known only as "Christian's mom." :) I wanted to write about the juxtapose I have often found myself in, being pulled between wanting to do all the things and be all the things for my kids and not having enough time in the day to do them. So often my life has to revolve around Christian. It's a guilt that I'm guessing every special ...

Moving and Settling In

Well, it's been five weeks since we moved into our new home, and I have to say, moving was absolutely insane and I never want to do it ever again! lol! Chris and I moved most of the stuff by ourselves with his trailor and my van. In hindsight, that was not a smart idea. We had help on the weekend with the really heavy furniture, thankfully, because I could not have helped with the piano and couch. But overall, we made probably 20 trips each from one house to the other. But we have never moved before so we just didn't know how difficult it would be or how to make it easier. If there is ever a next time, we will definitely hire more help and some moving trucks. We were so exhausted when it was all over that we didn't have the energy to even get our mattresses set up in the floor for two days, so we stayed at my parent's house for a few nights. Not to mention, Christian had surgery to have 8 teeth pulled the week we moved AND Chris and I had such short notice on our move...

Preparing for Battle - Surgery Number....12?

Here we are again. Preparing for another surgery. I feel like a bad parent because I honestly can't tell you exactly what surgery number this is. But to be honest, I've never been good at remembering insignificant details or things that don't really have to be remembered anyways. It's like my brain only has so much capacity to hold stuff, so the things that I don't have to remember just get pushed out. Only the really necessary stuff gets to stay. lol! So, I plan to go back and count exactly what number surgery this is, but for today, I'm just going to say that we are somewhere between surgery number 10 and 12, I think. The surgery will be December 3rd at our local children's hospital. Christian will be having eight baby teeth removed to make room for his adult teeth to come in. Some of his molars, specifically, a six year molar that we need to have erupted for his expanders, that should have come in by now still are not in because his baby teeth are not g...

New Adventures - A Big Move and Foster Care Certification

Two Wild Boys!  I don't regularly post on my blog anymore, but I really want to start doing it again. I always have so much to say and so little time to say it. So, I wanted to try to sit down this evening and write out a little bit about what has been happening in the Buchanan House recently! It's way too much for a Facebook post, so blog it is!  First, after 12 years in our first home, our family is moving!! We will be staying close to my parents and in the same county, but we are moving outside of the city, to a quieter area. We will also have a little bit of land! (Meaning, more animals! Yay!) I had to get rid of my chickens about a year ago, because I live in the city, so once we move, we will be able to get them back! I am also wanting to raise some other sort of livestock, but I haven't settled yet on what that will be. We have plenty of time to decide on that!  The house is much bigger than our house now. We outgrew this house a long time ago but because I was in ...

The Dynamic Duo - Raising Typical and Non-Typical Children Together

It has been SO long since I've updated my blog. In case you haven't followed along on Facebook, the past 4 years have been so incredibly busy and insane in the best of ways. I graduated law school, passed the bar, and started my law career. Talk about BUSY! I still homeschool my boys. Also, crazy busy! We have switched Christian's care back to our local children's hospital from Indianapolis, under the care of an amazing and compassionate surgeon and Christian had a HUGE surgery last year. Coronavirus hit and threw the entire world for a loop. Life has continued on and we have been living it for sure! Now that things are starting to finally find a normal pace again, actually a bit slower than what we're used to, thankfully, I want to try to get back to writing. It's been my intention for about a year now, and here I am finally putting fingers to keyboard once again!  So thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy! As always, join us on Facebook, Instagram, and Yout...
